More Shoes, Glorious Shoes!

Today is 12-13-14.  Not only does Friday the 13th fall on a Saturday this month, it's the last sequential day of the 21st century.  Next up is 01-02-03, in 2103.

I have something planned, Bob

More shoes and a (repeat) bonus at the end.  Between Friends, In The Bleachers (surprise!), Rubes, Speed bump, Real Life Adventures, Sherman's Lagoon, and a repeat from Howland and Churchy.

Churchy's full name is Churchill LaFemme but everyone calls him Churchy, which is how you'd pronounce the French Cherchez.  Cherchez La Femme literally means "look for the woman" and comes from a French novel.  The reference is to the fact that when there is a crime, or irrational or out-of-character behaviour and one needs to find a reason, "look for the woman."

I just think it's cute that his last name is "the woman."

Please click to enlarge, or just zoom in.

The ex had a box of that.

I felt like Art.

That was taken from our ceremony.

The absolute best!

Sunday Funnies ~ Shark!

I know I did some Jim Toomey's Sherman's Lagoon last month, but I have saved up a LOT over the years and whenever I look at them again I still laugh.

I want to share with my friends.

Besides, I'm still on the beach theme.  AND while at the Outer Banks I saw a shark take a big bite out of another shark.  I didn't see the outcome so I don't know if the bitee survived.

Shermanesque

I've long been a fan of Sherman's Lagoon.  The only screensaver I've ever used was from SL and it was animated.  Fish would swim from right or left.  If a shark met a small fish there was a "gulp" sound and the fish was dinner.  If a puffer met a swordfish, the puffer popped (to an appropriate sound).

But sometimes Sherman goes over to the Saturday cartoon side.  Here are a half-dozen.  Please click to enlarge.

Panel 3 makes the joke work.

Many of us have thought about it :)

He says "HEY!"...

...but here he splits.

Me.  Too.

Experiment is good.

Say What?

I've enjoyed Sherman's Lagoon for a long time.  Sherman's been in here at least a half-dozen times.  Back when screen savers were somewhat new, I had a Sherman's Lagoon one that had various fish swimming across the screen.  If a swordfish swam into a pufferfish, the pufferfish popped.  If a shark met a certain small fish the shark would gulp the little guy down.  Other than that, it was just... fish and stuff.

Before the Washington Post picked up Sherman, I had another reason to enjoy it: the images were in a predictable place with predictable names, and they appeared a week ahead of the newspaper.  So once a week I would load a personal page that gave me next week's Sherman.  Alas, that no longer works, but I still love the strip.  Who would think a strip that involves sharks eating "hairless beach apes" would be funny?  Remember to click to enlarge.

What?  No Herman on stage? :(

I Think I'm Starting to Understand Shopping

It's FUN.  When I was growing up, I knew shopping at electronics stores and stationary stores was fun.  As Meg grew up, I learned that shopping for clothes, shoes, cosmetics, and jewelry was fun too.  And I learned the difference between buying and shopping.  It's pretty much the difference between catching and fishing.  Catching means Work Follows.  Fishing is fun and relaxing.  Sometimes, buying is Catching, and shopping is Fishing.

And since I'm on that fish analogy....

and sometimes, shoes are art ~ a thing of beauty

Sometimes, Bigger Is Better

(to my helpful anonymous adviser: most thinking people know anonymous advice is worth less than the vice presidency [reference John Nance Garner].  But thanks anyway.)

First, look at panel one of tomorrow's on-line Sherman's Lagoon.

Oddly enough, if I pulled that, it would be my last panel, so to speak.

But context is queen:

Something's Going On In Kapupu Lagoon

Kapupu is the geographical name of Sherman's Lagoon.  This is, the third t-reference in two months.

I wonder if Toomey is trying to tell us something ~ I'll know for sure if I see a tilde in his strip!

Be sure to click to make it readable.

I Beat You, Stana!

I used my time machine and plucked Sherman from tomorrow's on-line version.  Jim Toomey is, um, showing his feminine side?  In any event, he does it in a very funny way!

Well, I Was In The Mood

Since Stana took my Sherman's Lagoon cartoon, I thought I'd dig through the archives and post a few non-crossdressing ones today.  Looking back, I see I found three crossdress-related ones that I posted in the past.  I wonder if something's going on there....

Click to enjoy the artwork.

Hi, Ralph!

Ralph posted a comment on one of my Gender Orientation posts a couple of weeks ago.

He was googling Sherman's Lagoon, searching for the strip I posted and he came across my blog.

I was amazed that someone would be googling a cartoon and find a trans blog and say "hey!  That's me too!"

I did check my history and found he was looking for Sherman's Lagoon with crossdress and a couple of other key terms, so my amazement lessened, but it's still pretty cool.

Check out Ralph's blog.  He has a different philosophy than I do, but we all need to get out and get our voices heard.  This has been coming out (so to speak) in  a private discussion I've been having with a prominent blogger and someone who writes a LGBT column.

I do think we need to get out and show our faces and raise our voices.  Gay rights, women's rights, civil rights were not won with anonymous leaders.  Most of us are still in the closet to some degree, and I bet the bell curve would be heavily weighted towards "completely."  Most trans persons prefer to keep a low profile.  I understand.  We want to live our lives and be accepted.  Blending is more important than leading.

Of course, there's also the possibility of failure.  Does anyone remember the "men's liberation movement" which started over 20 years ago?  I didn't think so.  The head man appeared on Donohue and a few similar shows wearing a skirt and claiming it was time for equal rights for men.  As near as I can tell, he's still a one-man show, although now he has a website.

Normally, I write posts off-line and copy them here and publish them   This one really started as a "hello Ralph" and nothing more.  The rest is the fault of my muse and the rainy Cape Cod weather.  I think future posts will expound on the above, and I think we need a "how closeted are you" poll.  I'm behind on my dating poll (mis)interpretation, but the results are still up and you can see for yourself where people fit.  It's pretty self-explanatory and, I think, pretty interesting.

Jeez....  I'm still doing it.

Hi Ralph!  And hi to all of my readers.  You're all spectacular people, and every one who's written to me has a story worth hearing, and I thank you for sharing.

And Penny ~ if you're out there, please drop me a note.  Another of the sad aspects of our anonymity is if something happens to one of us, there's no closure.
