Sunday Funnies ~ Potpourri

I have some unrelated one-ofs from a bunch of strips.  I put them together to amplify the laugh.  The Sunday strips are Rudy Park, Pickles, Big Nate, and Mike Du Jour.  I haven't been exactly Mike Lester's (Mike Du Jour) biggest fan, but this made me laugh out loud.

The next is a "Mike" joke from Wiley's Non Sequitor strip.  Finally, a rare laugh (sorry, Mr Walker ~ too formulaic for me) from Beetle Bailey.

What is Wrong with Mike du Jour?

I think the author, Mike Lester, either knows where the skeletons are buried or he works really really cheap.  He did a horrid "Anthony Bourdame" week.  Please don't hate me, but I'm going to post another of his [sarcasm]wonderful[/sarcasm] crossdress weeks.

He really needs to spend some time with some t-folk.  His parody is awful and he could set the movement back ten years, if anyone read his strip.  (For the record, I think the "buckaroo" strip I posted was his last funny one.)

By the way, I've criticised topics in cartoons before, and once a cartoonist himself.  But I readily admit that (a) I would have loved to have been a cartoonist (b) I could never produce a fresh, truly funny idea daily and (c) the artwork in XKCD is way beyond anything I could draw.

Open Mike Night!

There's a relatively new strip in the Washinton Post called "Mike Du Jour."  On rare occasions, it's funny:

But they're rare.  Sometimes, they make no sense at all (like the one I posted back in January, or like day 4 below).  Most of the time, they're just horrid, like the sequence below, which gets Mike Lester into the brand-new Saturday CD Funny Hall of Shame.

Horrid.

I Don't Get It

Mike du Jour is a new (to me) strip.  It appeared in the Washington Post when Richard Thompson sadly was forced to retire.  Mostly, it hasn't been remotely funny.  I keep hoping.

I don't get this one.  Is it what he wished for?  He doesn't look happy; he looks bewildered.  Is it a (not funny) joke on "foundation?"  And I don't think the "Make a Wish Foundation" has anything to do with birthday wishes.

I don't get it, but I approve of the results.
