Variations on a Theme

From various artists and various eras.

A first: Bob the Squirrell

Same old joke as above
A common complaint.  Not for any of US though!

I lost Stephanie Piro a while back.  I miss her.

Up In Arms

Again a week ago, I did a serious upper-body wax and shave.  Arms and underarms were wiped clean, back was stripped using a Veet wax (which worked pretty well), brows were trimmed and waxed using a Sally Hansen facial wax, which also worked pretty well.

The Veet was something I had not seen before: wax between strips.  You held it between your hands to warm it, then separated it into two waxed strips, and applied it gently to your body.  They you yank it off, whilst screaming.

The Sally Hansen wax needed to be heated in the microwave and had no cloth strips.  You heated the wax until it was only slightly warmer than molten lava, then you applied it to the area you want to clear cut.  Finally, you wait a moment until the hair stops smoking and, again, yank the wax off, whilst screaming.

I still won't wax my chest.  That seems fairly painful and even though chest hair seems to grow an
inch an hour, it's not worth it.  My waxylady kept suggesting I let her do my chest and I told her my belief that it would be painful.  She nodded solemnly and said she'd seen tears on the faces of "tough guys with tattoos" while waxing their chests.  (I also asked her what she liked best of all of the things she did at the salon and she said "waxing."  I said "you just like to cause pain" and I was rewarded with that solemn nod again.)

I like the way my body feels and looks when hairless.  I wish it wasn't so much work, and I wish that it lasted longer.  But I had a reason for serious shaving/waxing.

I spent a few days in a beach area, and that meant Meg would be wearing beach attire for the first time.

Not Waxing That. Nope. No Way. Not Gonna Do It.

A week ago, in preparation for an extended Meg time, I shaved my legs.  I shaved every hair I could see while wearing panties and then moved them aside and shaved a bit more.

I tried something some of you have done, but many have not: I wore a swimsuit.

Often, it's hard to find the right article of women's clothing to wear, usually because they want to

This is the one I bought.
show something I don't really have to show (cleavage), or don't really want to show (bra straps, tummy), or I have to shave too much to show (backless gowns).

Swimsuits are difficult because I have to find one that will both hide my forms and keep them in place.  There are suits with molded bras which hold their shape even if empty, but sometimes the cups collapse if you move in unexpected ways.  That's kind of embarrassing.

After trying to keep my forms covered in different styles unsuccessfully, I turned to mastectomy suits.  These are more expensive, which sucks for women who need them.  In reality, they are just suits with a higher front (not an uncommon style) and a little piece of fabric with a pocket for a form.  I guess they charge more because they can.

I ordered the suit shown here from SwimOutlet.com.  It arrived pretty quickly and looked better in person than on their website.

The suit I ordered has a small "skirt" front and fits quite well.  It's not the suit that would attract my eye if I was on the beach, but it would serve its purpose.  And nice as it is to be noticed, I don't really want to attract eyes.  Or so I say.

I put in my "overnight" forms, which are more firm than the ones I usually wear and I think it looked OK.... once I did that excessive shaving bit.  But I like the way my regular clothes feel over shaved legs, and now that feeling went all the way UP.  It was worth the extra time.

But there are limits to what I'm going to wax!

Oops

Last Wednesday, I mentioned that I always pause at the end of a note so I don't send e-mails with the wrong signature.  It's not the only time I have to make sure I don't mix me and Meg.  I also try to avoid underclothes that may be discovered, if I don't want them to be discovered.  As I've said before, outing yourself can be a good thing.  Being outed... not so much.

If I'm wearing a thin shirt I will wear a tank-type undershirt.  If it's very thin, the under garment will probably be white.  I also avoid strappy camisoles under my shirt if I'm going to be in a touching situation.  That just requires a bit of anticipation and planning, although at work I sometimes encounter someone who likes to pat backs.

It also requires paying attention.

A few weeks ago, I went to a client's office to help back up and shut down their systems before they moved out-of-state.  They're kind-of friends, who I've met socially and we often talk about family and such when I'm working on their equipment.

It is the male part of the couple's office where I was needed, but I've helped and chatted with both.  I wore the clothes I wore to my day jobs: dress pants, girl socks and sneakers, my usual jewelry, and a button-down shirt over a cami over a bra.

Both partners were at the office.

I did what needed to be done and the wife decided I couldn't leave without a hug.

I haven't heard anything else (except a request for how to set up at the new location) so I don't know....  Outed or not?  And does it really matter?

Alana! Stupid Me: No Picture!

I like surprises.  A blog reader I had never heard from before, Alana, contacted me out of the blue and said she was going to be in the DC metro area.  I was unable to dress to meet her, but we were able to organise our schedules to meet.

Alana was out for only the third time, and definitely more comfortable with being out than I was at that point.  Rain poured as we walked from car to restaurant; I gave the umbrella to the ladies and let myself get soaked running from tree to tree.

We had a nice dinner with a waitstaff that acknowledged proper genders (or didn't notice) and patrons

I forgot, but she took this the night before in her hotel room.
who didn't care.  One advantage of being in drab and accompanying a dressed friend is you can easily observe others observing her.  Almost always, people are absorbed in their own lives and don't even notice others, much less care.

She's one of many who can't dress at home so have to pack extra when travelling.  One can only hope that will change.  And I hope Alana gets to meet Meg next time she's in town.

And, Alana, I hope you're practicing with those heels!

Games Are Still Fun

Even if I'm not in my preferred mode of dress.

Saturday was a Star game day.  I was still digging out from my short trip to the left coast and I was forced to trade three hours of getting Meg dressed/getting Meg undressed for other more mundane things.

Note: Star's is not a t-event, but Meg usually goes.  I've been there in drab and had people say "I don't think we've met."
In fact, it was a jumping t-weekend.

Thursday night, there was an informal t-get-together.

Friday night, there were two local events: a group of ladies from the main group are going to a club in DC and a new group is going to a drag show, also in DC.

Saturday the GLBT board game group is having an unusual weekend get-together.  I joined them once, just to ensure T were represented. :)  There are also two more small get-togethers in DC.

There seem to be more and more events.  The groups have hundreds of members.

I had other plans, once I got last week unraveled.  But my free time Saturday was spent unpacking and doing fun things, like paying bills and seeing what the trip actually cost.

I hope everyone's enjoying Free-From-Labour Day today.  I'll be out doing things to write about later in the week.  YAY!
