Two Bits? I Wish!

For the record, I'm old enough to  know it, but not old enough to remember it.  My "shave [wax] and a haircut" cost almost 500 bits!  Extra bonus points to anyone who knows why twelve and a half cents is a "bit." :)

Yesterday, I skipped out on work early.  It's OK; I had to put in a ten hour day on Tuesday.

Before I go out as Meg I try to get my hair in order.  I got a haircut, I had the back of my neck waxed, and I had my eyebrows waxed.  My waxlady was very thorough.  She went somewhat further than just my neck, remembering that last time I said I might want to wear something sleeveless and if she could take care of what would be uncovered, I'd be grateful.  She went partway down my back, so maybe I can wear something with a lower back.  Usually I look for high backs.  I looked in a mirror when I got home.  With a camisole only my neck and upper back looks clear.  She didn't do the back of my shoulders, so I need to nair/shave that but it's worth a try.  I'll be sure to bring something sleeveless to Arizona.

I always have a nice chat with my waxlady.  She was surprised I didn't bring pictures of my latest outing, but I told her about the swap and Vanessa.  She assumed I was getting ready for Halloween; I told her I had no place to go, but I'd be away on business and meeting some girlfriends (I hope).  I told her that it takes me a couple of hours to "transform" but this is really the start of the process.

I asked her to do my brows "just a bit" more than last time.  I think they look good, but for fun I asked the haircutlady if she thought my brows were "trimmed too much."  She said they look a bit too curved.  I said "well, if I go out as a girl for Halloween, I'll be set."  She laughed.  I would tell her, but one of her coworkers is someone I know quite well.  I also know her kids and her husband.  My wife barely knows her but they have many mutual friends.  So that won't happen.

I have not shaved or otherwise de-haired my arms, hands, legs, feet, chest in a few weeks now.  I don't like the look but because Meg won't be out until the end of the week, I plan to take care of the pre-processing while I'm there.

I don't want to change my clock to Arizona time so it'll be early to bed and early to rise for me.  The office opens early and most people are done by 3 anyway.  I don't like getting an early dinner.  I feel old getting dinner at 4.  I just need to remind myself it's really 7 by my clock.  I plan to be in bed by 8 or 9 local, and up by 4 or so.  This means I'll do most of the things I usually do in the evening, in the early morning hours.  But I do plan to remove hair each evening.  I haven't decided how yet; I'll probably pick up a bottle or two of Nair in Arizona and stink up the room each evening.  Does anyone know a better hair removal chemical?  I'm open to suggestions.

And if i do a good, thorough job I may brave the world in a sleeveless or nearly so top so I can show off our handiwork.

Couple of Things

Saturday, I had a suddenly free few hours.  I spent two of them trying on skirts and writing information on them down in a steno pad.  I'll try to make a spreadsheet out of this soon.  I know, I wrote about this a couple of months ago, and I tried on a couple of dozen skirts then.  Those were on hangers in my closet.  The almost-twenty I tried on Saturday are in boxes in my closet.  I put a couple in the swap bag, and I broke my rule and kept a few that I'll never wear outside, but they're so cute (and mostly short) that I couldn't bear to part with them.  A few more that I labelled "shows bulge" I should have swapped, but maybe I'll find a good gaff or a better way to tuck and they'll be wearable.  I hope so!

I also kept some "schoolgirl" skirts.  I don't know where I found these, but you know the type: short, wide, and plaid.  Fetish stuff, I suppose.

I also came across a pair of shoes I've never worn out, even though they fit pretty well.  They're brown wedges with long ribbons that I suppose I wrap around my calf and tie.  Maybe that's why I never wore them ~ I'm not sure what to do with the ribbons.  But for the short while I had them on they felt really comfortable.

I also finally had time to try on the shoes I got at the last swap, which I still haven't written up.  I have notes, so hopefully when I get to it I'll get it right.

My new travel schedule has me in Arizona for two weeks.  If I can arrange it, I'll get my weekends on each side and travel Monday and Friday.  In between, I'll keep my Sierra Vista room but I'll also get a room in Tucson for the intervening Saturday and I'll spend the night up there.

I don't know when I'll be there, but it might be the last two weeks in October.  This means I'll miss Pride in the Desert.  That was a long shot anyway.  I was also a bit concerned about going there.  I think it's a reach outside my comfort zone, but I would have done it if my schedule worked.  I will be there if my schedule changes!

As soon as I have my schedule firmed up, I'll contact some ladies I'd love to meet.

And, overplanner than I am, I'm already working on how to easily separate what I need for work with what I need for play so I can bring some of my stuff.

But I have no solid plans for anything right now.  So, of course, my most recent fortune cookie says:

Your present plans are going to succeed.

It figures.

Alone? Not Anymore

In deference to my toe (still bleeding a bit) I'm working from home today.  My wife is out of the house today, and school has started.

Last year this meant, at an absolute minimum, a skirt and blouse.  If I have enough time, it's a day of Full Meg.

Now, there's a fly in the ointment.  My oldest is in college.  Although he's in a dorm, the campus is only a few minutes from here.  I don't know his schedule, and he does have his car.  So even the absolute minimum is too much.  Here I sit in my knock-around-the-house-sorta drab clothes.  My usual knockarounds are danskin sweats and a women's flannel shirt.  Any shoes at all are out today!

More Flies

Meanwhile, at work, I was planning my next trip to Arizona for next month.  I wanted to work out a Saturday flight in.  I'd spend Saturday/Saturday night/Sunday in Tucson and drive to Sierra Vista Sunday afternoon.  Meg would, hopefully, meet some friends and enjoy a full 24 hours or so in Tucson.

Now, it's possible I'll be in Arizona next week.  Due to other obligations, I'd have to leave late Sunday and return early Saturday.  I don't even think it's worth packing any Meg clothes at all, except for my usual underdressing.  It's a bit depressing.  Stay tuned.

Bust or No Bust

Well, both.

Too Drippy for Meg

I wasn't sure what my plan for Sunday was, but I had Meg clothes (probably the same as Friday night ~ I wasn't out long that night) and painted fingers and toes and some ideas of Things To Do.

Sunday morning, I woke up early thinking I could get dressed and go to Bisbee and take the copper mine tour and have breakfast there.

Instead I woke up early and was sneezing non-stop.  I don't know what was causing that ~ my eyes were watering and I had to make a decision.

Instead of getting out my makeup, I got out my nail polish remover and tissues and sadly started removing my fingernail polish.  It still wasn't over: I didn't need painted fingers to go out.  Just a painted face.

Mine tours were at 9 and 10:30 and further on into the day.  I wanted to make the 9, but I wasn't wedded to the idea.

By 8, the sneezing had slowed (but not stopped).  I was getting hungry so I decided to leave Meg at home and got dressed in a t and jeans.

I didn't consider it over for this trip though.  Bisbee was about 40 minutes away; I could come back afterwards and change for the afternoon and maybe go to Tombstone (touristy, but Meg might enjoy it).

The mine tour would have been a tad awkward.  Ladies, wear pants on this one!  Much of the tour is on a mine train, where you are straddling a 4x4 or 6x6 or something.  It's not skirt friendly.  I suppose you could ride sidesaddle but the tunnel is narrow and it's probably a real bad idea.  The tour was given by a man who worked in the mine for thirty years, and he had a lot of little details that a guide with a script wouldn't know.  For instance, he mentioned that the miners were "allowed" to take rocks for themselves.  If they found a pretty rock, they could take it ~ they hid it in their lunch bucket.  Everybody knew, nobody cared.  If they found gold or silver they could take that too, but they never did.  If they took copper, well, it was only a couple of cents worth.  The mine boss did the same, except he got the pick of the rocks.  Sometimes, the miners would steal his finds on the principle that the rocks are community property until removed from mine ground.

Breakfast in Bisbee also might have been uncomfortable for Meg.  It looked like a biker town, and I'm sure it was Meg friendly, but I was thinking about how I would have felt as I looked around and I felt I would not have had a lot of support there.

Corsets and Petticoats

After breakfast my eyes were still shedding water so Meg stayed home as I went to Tombstone.

I didn't go to the OK Corral re-enactment.  There are lots of places to buy native jewelry or geodes or stones.  There are a lot of restaurants ~ if it wasn't so far, I'd go back for dinner.

The other thing you can find in Tombstone is the Wild West side.  Guns, holsters, leather goods, "old time photos," and people in period clothing.

If you're looking for 1880s clothing, head for Tombstone.  Lots of fancy Saloon Girl clothes (pricey), lots of more modern western wear of the kind I was looking for: pretty tops, long loose skirts, denim skirts, light and open shoes.  AND bonus: if you're looking for corsets or petticoats, you can find them here.  The prices were all reasonable and I Was SO Tempted.  I'll be back and less likely to resist temptation.  If Meg was there, she definitely would have bought something!  Or several somethings.

Monday Nothing, Tuesday Nothing

Sorry.  That's a really obscure song reference.  Ten points to anyone who gets it.

Monday, I did not have class but I went to my office and met my peeps.  I tried to be open, friendly, sociable ~ everything I am normally not.  That, seriously, was harder than being Meg on Friday and Saturday.

I planned to work until 4 or so and then go out for dinner and maybe shopping at the mall where I had my nails done.  Instead, I worked until almost 7, and i had more work to do in my room.

Tuesday, I had to choose: I could get out at 430 and do something as Meg for at least an hour or two, but if I put in extra time I could take a day off when I got back to Virginia and spend it with my son who'll be going to New York for a summer job.  I love Meg, but not as much as my boys.  I worked late to get ahead on hours.  I don't have any vacation hours I can take yet and the contract frowns on unpaid leave.

I won't have the travel opportunities I had at my last job, but I still plan to have times out at home, for another clothing swap and maybe a trans-meeting.  That's a current goal of mine, and I need to work out the logistics.  It's certainly not impossible.  My wife is getting more vocally opposed though.  I need to figure out how to quash that.  I will also be coming back to Arizona, and I may go to some conferences.  Meg will be around.

And A Special Note for Dani

Dani wrote, in a comment:

As soon as I have an excuse to get rid of my mustache (maybe an upcoming play will provide it), I will attempt this...but only at night and only if going to a place where I am sure not to see anyone I know.

BTW--did you go bare legged?

Well, yes.  It was something new for me, and I felt better with a longer skirt.  It's also the first time I was out with a skirt below my knees!

But... the reason I copied this post is so maybe you could use this clip as your why I don't have a moustache explanation.

Testing the Waters

My new work hours are fungible.  I find that it's best to not leave later than 7.40 or I hit traffic near the end of my trip.  The last of my family normally leaves the house around 7.10.

Tuesday morning, I took advantage of that.  For the record, I'm writing this Tuesday afternoon.

Ugh.  But a nice dress
Ditto
While we were away for the weekend, I was thinking about What To Wear in Arizona.  I remembered an old white dress that I had never worn out but I liked.  I had an intense urge to try it on immediately, but being 200 miles from home sort of prevented that.  I also remembered that I bought a long blue dress at the same time, and thought that might be a good choice for Arizona as well.  The two dresses are pictured here.  The pictures are from August 1998 and they are headless because I look horrid.

Tuesday morning, as soon as the family left, I tried on about a half-dozen dresses and lined up a few more to try Wednesday.  I didn't have appropriate underclothes so it's still hard to tell what will really work, but both the white and blue dresses seemed OK.  The white has a kind of high waist ~ I need to take a second look at it.

I also pulled out a long flower patterned dress which I never wore out but it might be good for the trip.  It fit well.  I also found a red flowery dress that, after much deliberation ("it's really too tight" vs "it's really pretty") went into the clothing swap bag.  I pulled out a couple of sheaths.  One I thought was too formal; another was a bit too tight (but possible).

I have more to try on.  I want to see if I have open-toed shoes I could wear.  I want to try on the "finalists" with appropriate padding and undergarments.

     Wednesday
     Thursday
     Friday
mornings and that's it.  I can maybe try some clothes Monday, but I'd rather be packed by then!  Also, if I can't find anything appropriate I'd like to shop a bit.  There are not a lot of shopping options near my new job.  No Marshalls or similar store.  There's a dying mall not far away.

Here's the plan:
Wednesday: look into my shoes.  Do I have anything barefootish?
Thursday: try on additional dresses/skirts/tops (although I doubt I have any appropriate tops)
Friday: Try on the "finalists" (probably six or seven ~ some combination of dresses and skirts?) with appropriate undies.  Get to work later, if necessary.
