Marriage

Hi, all.

I'm not posting t-cartoons today.  The weekend will have probably the only cartoon topic richer than golf: relationships.  I do believe I didn't note the authors to Flo and Friends (a too-rare female cartoonist, Jenny Campbell), Kudzu (the award-winning Doug Marlette), or Mutt and Jeff (these are original cartoons from the mid-20th century by Al Smith).

Please check in on Monday to see what's going on this weekend.

Up first is marriage.  Click or zoom to make them more enjoyable.

Sunday Funnies ~ Potpourri

I have some unrelated one-ofs from a bunch of strips.  I put them together to amplify the laugh.  The Sunday strips are Rudy Park, Pickles, Big Nate, and Mike Du Jour.  I haven't been exactly Mike Lester's (Mike Du Jour) biggest fan, but this made me laugh out loud.

The next is a "Mike" joke from Wiley's Non Sequitor strip.  Finally, a rare laugh (sorry, Mr Walker ~ too formulaic for me) from Beetle Bailey.

Click to enjoy.

Beetle? Really?

OK....  It's more gender than CD but it also reflects back to something I've noticed.  We're not as complimentary as other women.  It seems women can always find something nice to say about something another woman is wearing.  I think there might be a couple of reasons for this:

* perhaps we're more insecure and we project that as critical of others.
* or maybe we subconsciously compare and we compliment those who pass better or are wearing something we'd like to wear, or something we think we'd look good in.
* or possibly it's not something we think about so we don't do it.

But Mort Walker is right: there is a lot to compliment in the World Of Women, not so much in the World Of Men, where everyone wears pretty much the same thing (and that's in the business and leisure world, not just the army).  As a man, I try to limit my compliments.  I'm sure the line between compliments and creepy is a fine one ~ if I told the office fashionista how much I loved her outfits every day she'd climb over the cube walls when she saw me coming.

Random Sunday Funnies

I just found these funny.  Speedbump has been here before; Dave Coverly is wonderful.  And sometimes even Beetle Bailey hit's a home run.  Oh....  The Mother Goose and Grimm is a preview ~ it won't be in the papers until the 30th but I wanted to include One Last Mayan cartoon.

Also a home run (so to speak)

Same Joke, Different Day

Yes, they're the same joke.  Why is one funnier than the other?

Coming or Going?

I'll get back to Mardi Gras tomorrow. Today is Rosh Hashanah (New Years) day, and I scheduled this in advance because there Will Be No Computer Thursday after dark.

But I do have a message to Anonymous, who commented yesterday and who I will call Pat: if you do Halloween en femme, consider doing it in a fem costume instead of, say, office wear. I haven't done this, but I was told it will lessen the suspicion. So be Wonder Woman or Lady Gaga or a witch, or a cheerleader. Me, I'd just say "I couldn't think of a costume. I just grabbed the first thing I found in my closet." Actually, for Halloween last year (IOU posts) I came to the office dressed and said "I was told, 'dress for the job you want'. I want my manager's job. This is how she dresses."

And I'll leave you with a very old Beetle Bailey cartoon (click to enlarge) and a thought: I've noticed most of my posts are about going out or coming out. We'll see what 5771 brings. Shana Tovah (Happy New Year), y'all.
