Sunday Funnies ~ Wink and Dusty

The Big Top strip is populated by an odd group of characters, but the best interaction is between Dusty the poodle and Wink the bear.

By the way, for a kind of realistic animal strip, look into Kevin and Kell by Bill Holbrook, the hardest working cartoonist today.  (He also authors the enjoyable dailies Safe Havens and On the Fastrack).  Kevin and Kell is populated by carnivores and herbivores in a love-hate-don't-eat-me relationship.  Alas, another strip I lost track of years ago.  I'll try to catch up soon.

These two short sequences come from Big Top and Liberty Meadows.

Stucco the Clown (Big Top) has always been unruly (bordering on evil and cannibalistic)  so a "clown whisperer" has been brought in.

Liberty Meadows is, well, just a medication error.

Desperate Circus Animals

Big Top, which takes place in a fairly pathetic circus, did a series a few years ago where the animals decided to make a reality show.  The girls were played by the male characters mostly because the girls are all in the sideshow.

Pete looks pretty good, for a cartoon. :)

Sunday Funnies ~ Welcome to the Circus

I know I've featured Rob Harrell's Big Top before. I've been reading it for a while and it's not a, say, Dilbert-class strip but it has it's moments. Since I had one strip yesterday, I thought I'd include some more today.

The first strip is the best of a good sequence. Dusty (vain little poodle) decided he needed Botox.

Another best-in-series. Wink (bear) was having trouble sleeping. I think this was the climax of the series.

I grabbed the whole series here. Dusty found a stun gun and has a great time with it. Mostly. I posted this a while back but it's good.

And some unrelated Sundays to finish off the morning. Brilliant!

Now I have to pay more attention to Big Top.  Big Top has the weirdest group of characters outside of a Charles Addam's cartoon.

Sunday Funnies ~ Poodle + Taser = Funny

(please take the poll.  That, of course, should say "get her ears pierced"!)

I posted a Big Top cartoon once before on a Saturday.  Big Top is OK.  The artwork is good, the characters have distinct personalities, which is a plus.  People and animals are together, and things like being a lion is considered a personality trait.

Scrappy, Isn't She?

I like Big Top, but I was mixed on this one.  (Catch the strip daily here.)  Background: The action all takes place in a circus.  People and animals mix freely.  Sometimes the animals are just other characters; sometimes they exhibit their animal behaviours.  I do enjoy the artwork a lot, and although it's not a guaranteed laugh a day, it is pretty darn funny.  I like it enough that when it moved from my "aggregate" page where I grab forty or so strips every day, I opened the GoComics page and I've been catching up.

On the one hand, it kind of makes fun of what the poodle (Dusty) sees as "sissy" behaviour in his friend (Wink, the bear).

On the other hand, it's pretty funny.  And it's a bit of a shout-out to my new friend Aeify.  She scrapbooks. :)
