I went to the Springfield mall, which is near my office and not very impressive. I was hoping to find polo shirts, or something similar, at the Penney's there, but struck out. I had looked in a Macy's a few days earlier so I didn't look again. There is a Target in this mall, and they had a few shirts that would work. One had long sleeves and I didn't like the only colour in my size. The other styles had nothing in my size.
Also in Penney's, but they had an "Arizona Jeans" department in the Junior department. They had some polos, with cap sleeves. I saw that they also had Arizona Jeans in the men's department. I asked someone if they had a misses section for that company. It seems they do not.
I also went to Landmark mall, sort of on my way between work and home. I tried the Land's End store in the Sears there ~ nothing.
I could look in Marshall's or one of those stores, but I find that it's better to only have a vague idea as to what you want when you shop there. It's so unlikely you'll find the item you want... well, flexibility is the watchword.
An anonymous (local) reader suggested the Ralph Lauren outlet store ~ there is one in Woodbridge, not too far from my office. I looked at the Lauren website and was a bit disheartened: the short sleeves were probably too short; the long sleeves looked OK but the shirts were around $100 each! Target ($10-15) was much more purse-friendly.
And I just realised it's Thursday and I haven't picked out what I want to wear in Tucson yet! I need a top and skirt, and a dress. I'm thinking one of the scoop tops I scored at freecycle, and I have a lbd that I think I could wear to somewhere clubby, if I end up there. Now.... Long skirt or short skirt? And which shoes?
I actually have a love-hate relationship with choosing clothes.

Tysons Corner, Tysons Galleria, Springfield Mall
As I head from my office down 95 to Richmond, I pass three malls. There are two Tyson's malls across the street from each other. I'm very familiar with both, and have changed in each of them. But the trip has changed a bit. I'll be going home, taking my wife to the doctor, taking her home, and then heading south. Those malls are north. I thought that they were not the best choices anyway, since they're so close to the office.
The next mall is Springfield Mall, about 8 miles from my house. It used to be a decent mall, but it's kind of dying now. There are four restrooms; I don't know if they have any family facilities. Springfield can also be a bit of a pain to get to and from. The roads around it are... odd.
But I may stop there first. Or I may continue on to the Potomac Mills Mall.

Update Later
I'm writing late Monday, since I have to be out of the house around 5am, early even for me. I'll update on whether I'm at home alone for a bit today or school is closed. Or you can check the Fairfax County public school closings and see for yourself. :)
I did a bit of checking and the almost 100 mile road to Richmond is littered with malls.
* Tyson's Corner is right at the start of my trip. There are two malls, each with family restrooms, each within spitting distance of my office. I think I'll head a bit further south before stopping though. I don't want to get caught by the lunch crowd.
* Springfield Mall is about 15 miles from my starting point. I have to check on restroom facilities (as I will for any further malls). It's a mostly dead mall, and may be a good choice for changing. Not so much for shopping.
* Potomac Mills Mall is enormous and about 28 miles from my start. I think it can be seen from the moon. It's a major Virginia tourist attraction. It's over 1.6 MILLION square feet and has over 200 shops. I'm sure it has family restrooms, but it also has huge crowds. I'd be reluctant to spend the necessary hour in a restroom, blocking out crowds that might need it. But shopping there would be fun.
* at about the 40 mile mark is the Stafford Marketplace. I know nothing about this shopping centre; I may check it out though.
* still within an hour of starting is the Spotsylvania Mall and the adjacent Central Park shopping centre. I know nothing about these. I will before I travel.
* further south, at about the 60 mile mark, is the Southpoint shopping centre. Also unknown to me.
And that's about it. I'll do a bit of research and report further. If anyone knows anything about these shopping centres please let me know!
