Lifetime Supply

I often wear a tank or camisole under my shirt.  I like to grab one that more-or-less matches the shirt of the day.

My preference is for a cami.  If it's possible to see through the shirt, I go with a tank.

I have quite a number of each, including about a half-dozen white tanks to go with shirts with a white base (like many of my striped shirts).  Some of the tanks are questionable but there are two reasons I wear them anyway:

1. no-one notices
2. if they do, I don't care.

Questionable includes racerback or v-necks or other feminine touches to what's really a stolen undershirt.

But thanks to "Woot Accessories," I have picked up two separate packs of Things To Wear Under My Shirt.

One is a pack of ten stretchy "one size" camis in a variety of colours.  The other is a dozen tanks in a dozen colours.

I think I won't be shopping for camisoles or hunting for tanks I can grudgingly wear for a long time.

On a related note, socks, especially girl socks, have a limited life.  I picked up a dozen pair of Esprit socks from Daily Steals to replace socks that are starting to succomb to the escape attempts of my toes.  For the most part, they're more girl-ish than girl (pastel patterns vs, say, hearts) which is what I'm usually looking for.

This won't be a lifetime supply, but I'm probably good for a year.

Each of these collections was under $30.

I have a decent supply of panties, picked up at various places.  Panties are harder because they need to fit really well.  Unless I find one of my known good panties, I wouldn't buy in bulk.

My only remaining problem is convincing myself that I don't want to go shopping for panties, socks, and camisoles.

Another Shirt Fail

About yesterday's post: Jen asked if I thought anyone noticed.  I really didn't care.  I liked the fact that I could easily tell, and next time I'll check, but I didn't care, and I will continue to not care.

Also, today is the first tights day of the season.  Not so much because it's that cold, but I don't have socks that match my shirt and I have tights that are close.

I have a shirt I really like.  It's a button-down LL Bean shirt that is striped, as many men's shirts are, but with some subtle pastel colours.  It has a pocket; many women's shirts do not but I don't think anyone's attention has been drawn to that.  It's the only shirt I've ever worn that someone has complimented me on.

And it's "heavy enough" that I can wear anything I want underneath.  Almost.  I don't think I could get away with, say, a black cami, but white, pink, beige, light purple vanish underneath.

To answer an e-mail question on yesterday's post, yes if I bend down you can see the straps through pretty much any shirt I wear.  As I mentioned yesterday nobody looks for bra straps on a guy.  I don't worry about when I'm, say, leaning over a sink in the loo.

A couple of weeks ago, I was wearing that shirt with a bra and pink strappy cami underneath.  I had an after-work mission.  I had to pick up Charity at the airport and then get groceries.

I went to the cell phone waiting area and did whatever it is people do there (pretty much "wait until the arriving passenger calls").

I needed a tissue.  I keep a box in the back seat.

I reached into the back seat and heard a tear.

I looked down and saw that the shirt sleeve had torn.  Not the seam, but opposite the seam where the pleat is when you iron a shirt (or if it's wrinkle-resistant, as this one was).

The tear went from shoulder to elbow.

If one would make an effort, my underthings were visible.  If one didn't, they weren't.

It was a cool morning and I wore a jacket.  I thought I could just put my jacket on, even though the day had warmed up a bit, and that would be that.

Except I dropped my jacket off at the office cleaners that morning to have a torn pocket repaired and have it cleaned.  No jacket.

When Charity called, I said I had "a slight tear in my shirt.  You probably won't even notice it."
Somehow, she noticed.

I thought of going home to change first but again, no-one's looking at a guy's undergarments.  I stuck to schedule.

The shirt is now a button source and dustrag but I REALLY liked that shirt.

Check Front AND Back

Last Friday, I followed the same routine I do most days before I go to work.

I check the shirt I'll be wearing.

If it's heavy "enough," I put on a bra and camisole under my shirt.

If not, I put on a bra and tank top, often a white tank top if I don't have one that more-or-less matches the shirt.

After I put on the cami or tank I check in the mirror to make sure it's even and the bra straps are (at least mostly) under the other straps.  I adjust as necessary.

But right before I was leaving I looked in the mirror, front and back and this style tank clearly did not hide the bra straps.  The went way wide of the tank back and were easily visible.

I don't worry about odd tanks, like if they're racerbacks or something.  Under a shirt they're mostly not noticable.  But this was different.

It was time to go.  I could change shirts but it occurred to me that nobody looks to see if a guy's bra straps are showing.  Girls' straps, yes.  Guys, no.

I went to work.

But I'll check front and back in the future.

(ps, Friday the 13th falls on a Monday this month!  Be careful.)

Cami Fail

The day before the Tom Paxton show, I tried on a top and skirt I wanted to wear.  The top was a purple textured tank.  It's fitted (with a side zipper), has wide straps to cover bra straps and is very pretty.  It looked fine.

The day of the show, I put it on with my preferred bra and pads and... nope.  Definitely not.  Nope.  Not gonna work.

Fortunately I had other options and since I had shaved pretty thoroughly the previous day I had a LOT of other options.

The cami fail is below.

But... I LOVE this camisole top!

Simple Pleasure ~ Adjustments

Today I have a hint.

If you're just starting out with underdressing and decide it's possible to stretch the envelope a bit with a camisole (or bra) under a heavy shirt so no-one can see it, keep in mind:

* really.  No-one can see it.  (ie, 100% safe)
* If they pat you on the back or shoulder they might notice, but I doubt it.  But they might.  (85% safe)
* and here's the important bit: at some point, the strap will slip.  It may happen several times during the course of the day.  And THERE IS NO MALE EQUIVALENT OR WAY TO EXPLAIN IT WHEN YOU REACH INSIDE YOUR SHIRT TO PULL THAT STRAP BACK UP.  So just live with it until you're alone.  Because someone will notice that. (oops)

I Don't Care, I Care, I'm Careful

I have a favourite pink shirt.  It's a men's shirt (alas), a palish pink button-down shirt and initially I always wore it with a cotton ribbed (women's) tank underneath and pink socks.  I usually try to match my socks with my shirt and rarely get comments (other than from my wife).  I figured, pink socks would be the thing most likely to get a mention but....

As time went on, and I moved more towards the "I don't care" side of life, I started wearing more feminine camisoles instead of tanks under all of my shirts, if they'd support that.  With each wash, they support it less.

The other day, I put on a nylon stretchy lacy pink cami.  It has thin adjustable straps and I love the feel against my skin.  I looked at my reflection and saw that the lace and straps showed through Just A Bit and decided that would be OK for work.  No-one would notice (probably).

After breakfast, I took another look.  I guess as I wore the shirt the weave loosened a bit and the lace and straps were clearly visible.

CLEARLY visible.

I went to my closet where I have too many camisoles and the like.  I pulled out three pink cotton tanks.  One was the ribbed one that looked like an undershirt.  One was smoother cotton with the same silhouette.  The third had a deep neck and thin straps.  I decided to try that one.

You can see the tank through the shirt ~ the too-thin straps and the too-low, too-wide neck are visible without straining your eyes.  Would a guy wear an "undershirt" like that?  Maybe, probably not.  Could it pass as a new style?  Maybe, as much as my charm bracelet does.

I wore it and didn't worry about it.

I now know there's a stop at "careful" along the line from "care" to "don't care."  I'll keep that in mind in the future.

(Who note: my favourite non-t-ish line from the show Saturday: The Doctor is about to step across a line.  A companion points out the "Keep Out" sign.  The Doctor says "I've always considered signs like that to be suggestions, not orders.  Like 'Dry Clean Only'."  Actually, the dialogue lately has been pretty punchy.)

Therapy the Fifth

I really have nothing to report, at least as pertains to the blog.

There was no t-content in the hour.  It was my wife's show; I barely said a word

The issues revolved around, mostly, my MiL, with whom my wife is having major issues right now.  We touched upon my mother, who my wife thinks I should be haviing issues with and doesn't understand why I don't.  Weird, huh?

Two little things:

I noticed last time that, as we leave, the therapist likes to put her hand on our shoulder, kind of guiding each of us out of the office.  So I made sure I was wearing a strappy camisole under my shirt.  Just to, you know, remind her why I'm there. :)

and

Why do I consistently type "therpaist"  when I mean "therapist?"  Almost every time, I have to go back and swap the p and a.  I don't know if this is a common finger misfire or not.  I know most UNIX gurus have a file that automatically changes grpe to grep (a common UNIX utility) because everyone seems to type grpe often enough that it's frustrating without the little hiccup-fixer.

Experimenting

Yesterday, at the office, one of the women walked past my office and said "how did you know I was going to wear the same shirt as you?"

We both had on blue button-down shirts but the similarity ended there.  She had different-coloured cuffs and her shirt was quite fitted.  So I said "I like your cuffs.  Wanna trade?"

She came in and said "that's the only difference.  That, and it buttons down the other side."  I ran my finger across my side from under my arm to my nipple and said "and this," referring to the dart, which she definitely needed.  She said "and that" and turned and left.  I think I embarrassed her a bit.

So today, I'm wearing a shirt that buttons down the wrong side.  I also have on a silky (probably poly) tank underneath and I left a button open so you can see it peeking through.

Let's see if she (or anyone else) says anything.

Update: I forgot to mention that one of my wife's co-workers, someone we've met with socially on numerous occasions, works in our area.  We share a kitchen area, halls, but his area is a secure room; we're outside that room.  But I see him on average once or twice a day.

My Dinner With Andre(a). And More

There's not much to say, other than it's nice to spend time with someone who knows about Meg.

Afterwards, I spent a lot of time thinking about how nice it was to spend time and have a nice dinner together, and how sad it was that there is only a small circle of friends I can do this with.

I think I need to expand that circle, but I'm also keenly aware of the problem Pandora had.  I don't consider crossdressing an evil let out on the world, but I do know it won't go back in the box once released.

I think I've reached the point where, if it ever came up, I would 'fess up.  For instance, on Friday I left the house without taking a critical look at how I looked.  Later, in front of the restroom mirror at work I did.  I was wearing a camisole under a polo shirt and although you couldn't see the green-blue lace trim on the front of the turquoise cami, you could easily see the thin straps and adjusters from the back.  It was early in the day and I thought of taking it off, but I went through a couple of quick scenarios instead: they started with a variation of "what are you wearing under your shirt?" and the best response would be "a camisole.  I usually wear one under my shirt."  Any follow-up questions could be answered honestly and move the conversation forward to a possibly uncomfortable but definitely open conclusion.  ("Why?"  "Because I like the feel.")

Any near-open response could lead to follow-up questions that are not only confrontational instead of conversational, but would make it seem I was hiding something.  My "something to keep me warm" could provoke a "what, exactly?" or "I've never seen an undershirt with straps like that."  It's hard to follow up without challenging back or seeming embarrassed at being "caught."  I'm not interested in challenge; I'm interested in enlightenment.  And I'm through hiding.

I'm just through.

Underdressing: Bad for the Environment!

I've been pushing the limit on underdressing for the past few weeks.  I think the poll results have inspired me.

As I've mentioned before, I always wear panties.  I've been wearing a camisole every day now, in a variety of styles.  Instead of the plain tank type I've been wearing more feminine styles, or "slimming" ones.

I've also tossed my women's socks, which is one of my visible-yet-underdressing items.  But instead, I've been wearing tights.  I had to purchase a couple of more pairs so I can have a week's worth.

Tights cause a little problem.

When I'm wearing tights and the camisole it's kind of imperative that I use a stall.  I really need to organise everything after I'm done with the bathroom.  I have to pull up my cami, so I can adjust the tights, which usually have a control top feature so they have to be just right or they're quite uncomfortable.  And I hate when the waistband rolls up!

And here's the problem: I get in the stall, get rid of my last cup of coffee, and the automatic toilet we have at work flushes.  And no matter how I stand, it decides it needs to acknowledge my feminine underwear by flushing again.  And then it flushes again when I'm ready to leave the stall!  I feel like I'm going to lose my conservation creds if I keep wasting water like that, but I don't want to give up my cd activities.

I can only think of one solution.

I need to figure out how to disable the auto feature.

Stuff Happens...

...but whether it bothers one or not depends on how far you are on the "don't care" spectrum.

I've been wearing nice camisoles under my shirt for the past few weeks.  Normally, I wear a tank top under my shirt, or maybe something silky but in tank-top style so if it shows, it looks mostly normal.
But lately, I've been wearing newer, more opaque shirts and camisoles with thin adjustable straps in a variety of materials and colours and lacy flourishes.

A couple of Fridays ago, I was wearing a blue denim (women's) shirt with a pink lace camisole underneath.  One of the women in the office was behind me and she said "I think there's a hole in your shirt."  And she decided to manually check it out, trying to grab the material so she could see if it was, in fact, a hole.  It was actually a 7-shape cut, about 3/4 inch on each side and I was wondering if she'd see the cami underneath as I was saying "I believe you!  I'll check it later!"  It was low enough that, if my shirt was tucked in, it would have been hidden.  I prefer to leave casual shirts out.

If she did see it, she said nothing.

A few days later, I was walking out of the office, past the kitchen area.  My manager was talking to another techie and he was trying to make a point.  As I walked by, he said to me "isn't that right?"  Going along, I said "Absolutely.  I couldn't have said it better myself."  He laughed and put his hand on my back as I walked past.  Right on the adjuster on my camisole strap.

Again, if he felt something odd, he said nothing.  I almost hope there's some undercurrent about my underdressing.  I'd welcome coming out.

I think.

And in the self-immolation category, a friend started a political blog.  He's not getting a lot of eyes but he is getting a lot of spam comments.  I showed him how to limit that, and he did.

Then I posted a comment as "Meg."  He hasn't approved it, because he's not 100% sure it's legit.  He thinks there's some sort of spam comment he's still letting through.

I'm tempted to mention to my wife that he's being a dope, that I posted a comment under my "girl name" but this all falls under the Don't Ask, Can't Tell category.

That Flurry of Polls ~ Support

My support garment of choice is... (71 votes)
a panty girdle12 (16%)
a full girdle, like grandma wore6 (8%)
a waist cinch19 (26%)
a corset10 (14%)
a spanx-type camisole11 (15%)
I don't need no stinkin' girdle!13 (18%)

Yay to the one-in-six who don't need any waist assist. Or who don't care. :)

For me, it's about the external, not the internal: I want to present as the best woman I can, but I don't need to feel I am a woman inside and out.

Before I went out, I didn't bother with any support at all. When I first started thinking about going out the door, I found a woman who helped other men dress. She told me what to bring, and among the items was a corset or waist cinch or whatever I use. I told her I didn't use anything.

But I started thinking, and when I tried on clothes the next time... well, there was a little tummy I would prefer to not have. So I bought a waist cinch, probably mail order although I don't remember.

To finish the story: she had to cancel at the last minute, leaving me stuck at home.  The next time I had an opportunity, I wrote to her and she said she was in the process of moving out of state.

Someday, I hope to save my money and get a corset but that's kind of scary to me.  The thought of improving my figure isn't scary ~ my habit of overbuying is. I'm afraid I'll have a thousand dollars worth of corsets in my closet!

I bought a couple of "slimming" camisoles and the one I tried in Arizona really seemed to work well. I haven't tried the other in "battle conditions" so no report yet. Under one form-fitting dress, the camisole alone gave me the best shape. Under the skirts/tops I wore in Arizona, a cinch and slimming cami worked best. I'll just have to experiment. And probably overpack.

Girdles don't interest me. They're female, of course, but just not feminine. My opinion.

About a quarter of you use a cinch as your waistmaker of choice. Another quarter like girdles. Fourteen percent go for the corset.... How do you like it?

And fifteen percent like the power of the camisole. If you have a favourite brand or style, I'd love to get some recommendations!

Don't Dream It, Be It

I've been talking a lot about underdressing.  The polls have also been about stretching the envelope a bit, and for the past few weeks I've been trying to do just that.

Because I'll wear men's clothes until they're threadbare, I normally wear a plain white cotton tank-style camisole under my shirt.  Since the tank is plainly visible, it took a step "outside the box" to wear that instead of a more traditional male t-shirt.  But now they're the most "masculine" item I wear underneath a shirt.

When I wear heavier shirts, like polos or denim, I wear a regular camisole underneath.  I try to match the colour to the shirt colour, but that's just for me.  No-one should see the cami.  There's always a chance: I generally don't tuck casual shirts into my pants but the cami is tucked in.  If the shirt shifts, the cami doesn't.  I've decided that's less of a problem than, say, wearing a too-short skirt and giving a show.

But for the past three weeks now, I've been wearing whatever cami I feel like under whatever shirt I'm going to wear.  I haven't worn a plain white cotton tank during that time.  I've worn a plain white silky tank, or a white or beige "control" camisole under a shirt that's a bit thin, but that's as close as I've gotten.  Other than that, I've been trying to wear a different cami each day (and I have way too many of them).  Most have thin straps or thin straps with adjusters.  Many have patterns or lace or other details.  Some have "built-in bra support" which is a bit uncomfortable without a bra.  Some feel great, some tug a bit, But I enjoy the feeling and I'll keep on doing this.

Normally, I wear women's socks.  If anyone cared to look, they'd see flowers or patterns or some pinks or purples or bright blues ~ some unexpected colour.  I have solid pink socks I wear with pink shirts, and solid green socks to wear with a green shirt.  I try to have some sock colour match some other colour I'm wearing.

But not for the past almost-two-weeks now.  In the past I've worn black pantyhose or stockings under (plain) black socks.  I haven't done that for a couple of years.  I think I stopped because it's just too much work to go to the bathroom, or maybe I was concerned that people would notice the sock end and the hose continue on, or maybe I stopped when I switched to women's socks.  I'm not really sure.

What I decided to do was skip the socks and just wear dark tights.  So far, it's been black or brown or grey, matching what shirt or pants I'm wearing, but I wore white instead of white socks one day and I have a pink pair that I may wear next time I put on a pink shirt.

It feels weird to be wearing plain coloured "socks" after wearing flowers and such but it's nice to be wearing hose, and it feels nice on my legs.  And I have a couple of pair of textured tights and I'm looking for more.  Today I have vertical stripe tights ~ grey and black.

I've also been wearing lip gloss.  It's a clear gloss and not very glossy, but it's definitely there and when I use it up I will get another that's a bit glossier.

It's far from what I want, but it's a step away from dream it towards be it.

Underdressing?

(three days to go)

OK, new poll.  I thought I hid it yesterday but seven of you found it anyway!

I underdress.  I don't mean that I wear shorts to jeans occasions, or I wear jeans to dinner parties (although I sort of do that too, when I'm in drab).  I mean I crossdress, underneath.

As my male socks tear, they are replaced by women's socks.  I no longer own any male underwear.  I sometimes, especially in colder weather, wear pantyhose or tights under my slacks.  Although I usually wear socks over pantyhose, I usually wear black tights without socks.

I own no male undershirts.  I do own a number of camisoles and under a heavier shirt I'll wear a lacy one with thin straps.  Under a lighter shirt, I wear a more "tank top" type of camisole.

I have worn a waist cinch under my shirt/pants.  I don't do that often though.  On rare occasions, I've worn a bra under my clothes.

I know that some of us never underdress. I know that some of us overdress ~ we wear "passable" female clothes.  I have a few shirts that button on "the wrong side," most of my jeans are women's jeans, and my shoes are from Aerosoles; my casual shoes are women's New Balance.  Some of us wear a bit of makeup all or some of the time.

But that's another poll for another day.  Please take my "underdressing" poll.  I'm curious.  And feel free to e-mail me or drop a comment if you checked "something else."

Girls' Day Out - The Next Logical Step

(Before getting to the post, I want to say again: Please consider going to a Transgender Day of Remembrance event this coming weekend.  I'll be at the Fairfax event.)

"So how did you find the women in Tucson?"
"I just opened the door marked 'women' and there they were!"

I walked up to the men's room door, turned sharply, and went into the women's room.

It was as empty as the hotel corridor.  I picked a stall, closed the door and... the door wouldn't lock.  I went into the next stall and the lock was good enough.  I hung my purse on a hook, moved everything I had to move and sat down.
A little digression here.

I bought an incredibly stretchy and tight Spanx-type camisole to replace the ones I couldn't find but knew I brought with me.  Funny thing.... Friday night, I found them in the only compartment I didn't empty completely.

I brought a "club" dress with me.  It's purple, a tad short, very stretchy and I love it.  There's a problem: there's a li'l bit of a bulge.  I thought I might buy something to hide that and be able to wear it if I went out with some of the ladies.  When I tried the dress on over this camisole it looked great and there was no sign of a bulge!  And this was without my constant companion, my waist cinch.  I found the perfect undergarment!

Click to see the cami/top effect.  Or to stare at my boobs. :D
I also picked this camisole because it had a higher neck and the scoop of the top I was planning to wear was a bit low.  I wanted a kind of "crescent moon" look.  I wasn't even looking at the slimming aspect.  I even picked a large because the straps are further apart and I'd get a better look, even though I thought a medium would work, because it was so stretchy.

In reality, it was so tight that I couldn't even pull it over my head!  I had to step into it and pull it up.  But, again, the look was great.

I had a choice of three skirts that I bought last week, as I mentioned before.  I decided to go with the longer skirt, because it just looked and felt great.  If it was a few inches shorter I wouldn't have minded, but it was swingy, pretty, and fit perfectly.  But I really needed my cinch, so I had the cinch and camisole.

I didn't get to wear that dress, but I wore the cami under my top as you can see above.

OK, back to the ladies' room.  My stockings made things a bit easier but I still had to figure out where to put the skirt, skirt lining, cinch, camisole, and the bottom of my top.  Then I had to get everything back to where it was, and make sure everything was smooth and straight.  It was a pain, but such a singularly feminine experience that I really didn't mind.  I'm always in awe, every time I do something for the first time that women do regularly.  And I'm glad my hose was hosed so I had on the stockings.  And I'm glad I at least knew that stockings/garters go on before panties do!

I touched up my lipstick in the stall and exited a still-empty ladies' room.  But that wasn't my fault or my plan.  It's like the empty hotel lobby: if someone was there and wanted to interact, that was OK, but I wasn't going to look for people to interact with.  Especially there in the ladies' room.

I Better Be Ready

I walked over to KMart during the day Wednesday and I picked up one of these.  They had that camo finish, or dark blue.  Neither was my first choice, but I picked a blue one up anyway.  It folds flat, weighs little, and if I can make a little room in my regular bag I can carry it on my trip, empty.  I bought it now so I could bring home my extra skirts.  I may also buy something in Tucson (if I find anything interesting or unusual) and I STILL might try the ballet flat idea.  If I do, I'll need to carry my male shoes, which are bulky and will never fit in my bag without other considerations.

I also spent five on a pack of three trouser socks.  If I wear the flats, I'll need thin socks.  Not that I'm saying I'll do it yet.  But I'm ready.

One disappointment here: I cannot wear my cami or cinch under two of my shirts.  One shows every strap; the other is a nicer material and a bit clingy.  Under either, I can see the straps (and one of my camis is shaped for my bust so even though the cup material is thin it still bunches and shows a bit.  A bit too much.  If I leave off the cami, there's a bit of a "muffin top" above my cinch.  I'll wear my denim shirt again today so I can wear my cinch and that nice cami.

The plan for today is to meet Dorothy for dinner in Tucson.  If I can get there early, Meg will meet her.  If not, well, at least I'll be wearing all women's clothing.  It's not much but it's better than nothing.

Before I left for work I got rid of as much hair as I could, except for a close facial shave.  The dress I'll probably wear has 3/4 sleeves and my top has long sleeves, but for some reason I decided to completely shave my arms and underarms.

While here, I made a list of everything I brought so I can use this as a serious starting point.  I'm going to make three lists from that one: Things I Must Bring, Things I'd Like To Have, Things I Can Replace.  I must bring my contacts.  I'd like to have my wig (because it's tricky to replace), and most makeup is easy to replace.

Wednesday night, I did a dry run, trying on my padding and shoes and top and each skirt.  And, even with all my planning, I still messed up.  I am certain I took out a white plain Flexee cami.  I remember noticing that it was very stretchy and was shaped for my bust.  But it didn't make it to Arizona.  I hope I put it away!  My top is a scoop neck and almost too low.  I wanted to wear a higher neck cami underneath so I'd get a kind of "crescent moon" shape.  I think if I'm careful it'll be fine, but I'd rather have the extra layer.

Sometimes, I amaze myself.

Oh....  One of the skirts I picked up at Goodwill had the original tags from Macy's.  It's lined, multi-gored, very swingy and I like it alot, except for the length (just below knee; I'd prefer just above).  And the original price on this $7 skirt was $59.

No No No No No!

(I still have to finish my Richmond trip, and I'm heading into my next opportunity, Colorado next week, but I'm still feeling lousy and I wrote this a couple of days ago...)

After I returned from Richmond, I had a free hour so I decided to organise my drawers.  I have mostly finished rating my panties and I have a drawer dedicated to them.  I don't need quite so many, so I started locating my "A's" and put about a dozen of them in that drawer.  The rest went into a bag.  I also have a sock drawer that has more socks than I need; you saw the pictures.  I grabbed a couple of pair of plain black socks and about a dozen more with flowers and other patterns on them.  The rest went into the bag as well.

Then there's the drawer of "whites."  White (or mostly white) socks, camisoles that pass for undershirts, and panties that look like regular male undies.  This was another full drawer.  I pulled out five pair of patterned white socks and two or three pair of plain white socks.  I kept a half-dozen plain white cotton panties.  I also pulled out a few of the camisoles.  Everything else went into the bag.

The bag went into the closet as backup for when something gets worn or torn.

While sorting through the whites I found something that I thought was already banished from the house: male underwear.

No no no no no!

They went into another bag with a couple of pairs of panties that had earned the "F" rating and that bag went into the trash.

I feel better now ~ a little more pure.

(Cami)sole Searching

I wasn't going to write anything else about camisoles, but I thought of another pun subject, so....

Several years ago, I found out about freecycle from a client.  I joined the local group using my "regular" e-mail.  I got rid of some items I would have tossed, but I joined mainly as a free clothing source.

The first item I found was a bag of slips and camisoles.  There were a few half slips, full slips, and camis, all white or off-white, all silky (but not silk).  The slips, unfortunately, were on the long side but I've worn then with longer skirts around the house.  I don't get out enough to wear long skirts outside!

Often, freecycle items are left on a doorstep for you to pick up and you never meet the donor.  In this case she had to bring them to work and I picked up there, so we met and chatted a bit.  This is way before my no more stories epiphany, so I didn't admit they were for me.

Oh... one more detail.  She knew who I was.

We never met, but my male e-mail addresses are generally in my full, unusual, male name.  She'd seen my name in the newspaper.  There's a regular newspaper contest here ~ I'd seen hers as well.

I was pretty nervous, but I thought she already knew I wanted them (but not, of course, for me) so there's no point in canceling the pickup.  I did joke about "hoping they'd fit" and she looked me over and decided they should, and I promised I'd re-freecycle them if they didn't.

The regulars in this contest have a closed group.  They meet about once a month, and they have big events 2-3 times a year.  There's a fairly active listserv too,

She still doesn't know.  One person in the group of regular contest entrants sort of knows ~ I've told her, but it's a humour contest and she probably thinks it's a joke.  If she asks, I'll make it clear.  But she hasn't asked, yet.

You know me by now.  I'll probably escalate.

Camisoles ~ No Rules

I came across this picture recently.  Just when I thought I had it all sorted....

Camisole OVER tank top?

I think I'll wear my plaid shirt with my polka-dot slacks.

Filet of (Cami)sole

Yesterday, I wrote:

There are two types of camisoles. One has wide straps, one has narrow straps.

Wide straps are better under drab shirts. They're pretty much like undershirts.

Narrow straps can be hard to hide, especially if they're adjustable.

Oops.... There are wide straps, straps with lace, narrow straps, narrow adjustable straps, spaghetti straps, adjustable spaghetti straps.... There are probably more different types of straps than the total number of (male) shirts I own.

And there are not just long and short ~ there are lengths from above navel to tunic length.  You can consider full slips to be a really long camisole.  Or a camisole as a short slip.   There are a steady range of neck openings, from high all the way down to ohmygod. There are cotton, ribbed cotton, nylon, stretch, and silk. I have a velour camisole.

They come in white and pink and light pink and dark blue and any colour or pattern or print you can imagine. There are plain ones and ones with lace around the collar and lace around the waist and lace on the straps and any combination. There are ones with bows.  I have a camisole with a side zipper.

A few years ago, I tossed out my undershirts, and replaced them mostly with these.  (By the way, the price for these at Amazon is very good.  I may buy another pack.)  But I also have silky white ones and white ones with a bit of lace ~ just a bit. And I have a few tank tops in different colours to wear under different colour shirts.

I've been doing a bit of inventory lately, and trying to see what I should eliminate from my closet. To that end, I've been wearing a different cami under my shirt each day. Sometimes, only a plain white one will work. Other times, I stretch the envelope as much as I can.

I save the adjustable and spaghetti straps for when I'm wearing a denim or other heavy shirt. That means I won't get to all of them before the weather gets warmer.

I am wearing lacy camis, or ones with narrower straps under my regular clothes when it probably won't show. As readers here have pointed out, accidental outings are probably not a good idea.

No, I don't think I'm done yet.
